The Red Rose for St George’s Day
While the war in the Ukraine has been going on for two months let’s not forget to celebrate St George’s Day today. After all, the Westminster cabal would we’d rather not!
Meanwhile, some mandarins in the corridors of Whitehall seem to have been voicing doubts about the progress of this war. Sadly, these seem to have fallen on deaf ears. According to the headlines in this morning’s paper editions the PM plans to send our tanks to the Ukraine – here’s the BBC’s customary compilation. One other headline in that compilation caught my eyes: a report in the FT about the Pound sinking and High Street Sales plunging.
Firstly, a brief look at the report in the FT. Under the headline “Pound slides to weakest level since 2020 as British retail sales fall – Spending data point to inflation squeeze on households” we read that:
“Sterling initially plummeted on weak retail and consumer confidence figures. The volume of high street sales fell 1.4 per cent in March, the Office for National Statistics said, worse than the 0.3 per cent drop forecast in a Reuters poll and the second consecutive monthly decline. Separate data released on Friday by the research company GfK showed that, in April, UK consumer confidence plunged to a near all-time low since records began in 1974, reflecting the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.”(link, paywalled)
It looks as if we peasants out here in the sticks, outside the magic Westminster circle, are more realistic in our assessment of dire things to come. than ‘our betters’ would like to believe. How could this be? Perhaps we’re much better at assessing what is to come than the propaganda chiefs in government, Whitehall and Westminster! Will we now be exhorted to spend-spend-spend to ‘save’ the country from recession? Perhaps all those of us not living in Audi Avenue are very much aware of the pounds and pennies the government has left in our wallets …
Next, let’s look at the latest utterance by the PM. Rest assured – ‘our’ nice tanks will be sent to Poland , not the Ukraine, enabling the Poles can hand over their tanks to Mr ‘e. The details in the following quote from The Times are both important and illuminating:
“The prime minister said the UK was considering “backfilling” Poland by sending Challenger 2 tanks so it could transfer its own Soviet-era T-72s to Ukraine. However, he stopped short of committing to a military intervention should Russia invade Ukraine again in future. Tanks are expected to play a decisive role in the battle for the eastern Donbas region, where the terrain is much flatter than in the north. The Pentagon believes that Ukraine now has more tanks than Russia. The donation of Challenger 2 tanks would be a significant step up in British lethal aid. As part of the deal, British troops are likely to be deployed to Poland to operate a squadron of about 14 tanks.” (link, paywalled)
Interesting, isn’t it, that Johnson is talking about a ‘future Russian invasion of the Ukraine’. What is that all about? And why does the Ukraine need ‘moar tanks’ when they already have more than Russia, allegedly, according to the ‘belief’ of the Pentagon? Keep the remark about that battle in the Donbas region in mind – I’ll come to this later. There’s one more remark – my emphasis:
“Speaking on a visit to India, Johnson accepted an assessment by western intelligence officials that President Putin could still “win” the war. He said: “The sad thing is that is a realistic possibility.” (link, paywalled)
So the ‘crocodile’ is successfully chewing the legs off the Ukraine, is it? Apparently there are some in MI6 and in the corridors of Whitehall who seem to have a more realistic understanding of the situation in the Ukraine but we plebs mustn’t be told because we might ask why we should send tanks and soldiers to Poland if not to the Ukraine when we don’t have many of either ourselves. Remember that hearing of the Defence select Committee of the HoC we linked to yesterday …
Here’s one more quote showing that Johnson even now prefers bombastic expressions rather than acknowledging reality. This quote comes from the Speccie’s evening news email. Johnson said:
“The sad thing is that that [a long war in the Ukraine] is a realistic possibility. Of course Putin has a huge army. He has a very difficult political position because he’s made a catastrophic blunder, so that the only option he now has really is to try to use his appalling, grinding approach, led by artillery, trying to grind the Ukrainians down.”
Given the current situation in the Ukraine, it’s Johnson’s secret why Putin made ‘a huge blunder’ and has now to ‘grind the Ukrainians down’. I’m sure someone in Whitehall must at the very least look at the daily reports by the Russian Ministry of Defence. After all, they’re online and even I can access them. So can you – here’s the latest, in English. Over the past weeks we learned that Russian forces have taken out fuel depots and oil refineries. I seem to recall that tanks need fuel. If there isn’t any, how are the fabulous Ukrainian soldiers going to drive them? Are there actually that many tank drivers left?
You might like to look at this blog entry – it’s written by an American who does know a bit or two about military intelligence. He’s also produced maps with the names in Latin letters so non-Russian speakers can grasp what’s really going on.
Meanwhile, in a clear case of fear porn, if not of projection hinting at something the desperate Mr ‘e might plan to do, Ms Nuland warns Mr Putin of the most dire consequences should his troops use tactical nuclear weapons (my emphasis)
“In an interview for the Ukrainian outlet European Pravda, Nuland was asked to assess the possibility of Russia using tactical nuclear weapons. She responded that she could not rule out such a “catastrophic scenario.” As Putin “has already ordered” what, she said, were “brutal war crimes,” the world must be prepared for the worst. At the same time, Nuland stressed, the consequences of such steps would be catastrophic for Russia and for Putin personally. She refused to provide any details about the potential response from the West, saying instead that use of nuclear weapons would take the situation to a “fundamentally new level” where the price will be “simply astronomical.” (link)
Why Russia should use such weapons when they’re winning is her secret. However, it’s entirely possible that Mr ‘e would do so, his army being decimated all round. It would make a lovely false flag ‘event’, wouldn’t it.
There’s one other piece of news which demonstrates the inhumanity of the Ukrainian regime: “Kiev charges mayor of Balakleya with treason for accepting Russian “occupation” and humanitarian aid” (link) – this is Nazi ideology pure and simple, straight out of Hitler’s and Goebbels’ playbook.
It seems ‘Teh West’ is following Mr ‘e, accepting his theatre production of re-enacting Hitler’s wars. There’s the desperate attempt of turning the Azovstal plant into a second Stalingrad, with the brave neonazis taking on the role of the then Soviet troops. Now that Putin isn’t playing that game, they’ve switched to re-make that plant into something like the Alamo.
Then there’s the Pentagon and the Johnson ’war brigade’, warbling about tank battles in the Donbas region. I’m not sure if they imagining themselves playing the role of the early, winning Nazi tank battles, or if they envisage themselves as latter-day Soviet tank commanders who drove out the Nazis. It seems ‘Teh West’ has still not grasped that Putin isn’t fighting WWII battles, nor is he fighting the US battles in Iraq.
I recommend reading this long but interesting assessment of the current situation and outlook, with lengthy, very illuminating quotes from an unnamed Canadian veteran ‘with NATO experience’ and with quotes from Donbas military. The author asks inconvenient questions about Ukrainian logistics and the use of ‘western’ help.
I leave you with ‘news’ that Russian soldiers are trolling the West which has banned the use of the Latin letter ‘Z’. Now they’re putting the whole Latin alphabet on their tanks and vehicles – see here for yourselves. ‘Avin’ a larf is always good, especially when one has the last laugh.
While Russia and the Eastern Orthodox churches are celebrating Easter tomorrow as France is going to the polls, let’s enjoy St George’s Day today.
The latest Nigel Farage video about the English Channel invaders; this will outrage you.
“This is a disgrace!”
https://youtu.be/GhHkuoESKUU
I have looked at this video and yes it is a scandal that these so called migrants are allowed to waltz into our country without documents and given free accommodation, free mobile phones, free tablets, free medial attention and free dental care, and even if the if asylum applications are in the end rejected by the Home Office there is zero chance of them being deported from when they came, namely France. However this video by Nigel Farage is more of less the same as the others that he has made over the past two years. It is all very well producing videos for his You Tube channel which at the end of the day has limited appeal, or his Facebook page which has 100,000 plus followers, or indeed his GB News programme but we need more from him rather than just being content to snipe away at the sidelines in the comfort of a radio station studio or the dining room of his home. The Nigel Farage that we all knew and loved from his UKIP days was not content to do just this as he led an up and coming party that got in peoples faces, stood at elections and had aspirations of getting representation on local authorities and more importantly in the House of Commons, where only true change can be affected. I want Farage to reinvigorate himself and get himself back on the hustings trail and form a right of centre political party, develop some workable policies and start challenging the inept and woeful fake Conservative Party and holding their equally inept and woeful leader top account on the national stage. As far as I concerned and a lot of other former UKippers I know, Reform UK is a lost cause and will never replicate the success of UKIP prior to the 2016 European Union referendum unless that party is on the receiving end of a massive root and branch shakeup and the present leadership ditched. So what about it Nigel, are you up for it?
As hinted and described and spelled out and even numbered, Only one avenue now becomes available and will need Farage.
A simple platform Party. Call it the Protest Party for now ( I understand the knee jerk reaction from the political carpet baggers and dim position-seekers, but for the purposes of understanding )
And that is. To put Farage as Chairman with only structural and limited and defined responsibility and responsibility( Argue later ).
Offer other existing R.wing promising parties the franchise on their particular protest under a protest dissatified banner banner. Each protest would have its own income stream and central support for each other and contribute to the central pool of whatever..
I can think of many protests from Feminism to religious tolerance to Insulate Britain and a hundred others.
All Valid and presently ignored. BUT Unity or at least self protection, gives strength.( Ukip could be one of the protest groups groups – using a tory party manifesto )
Now thats what you would call organised, but when placed alongside personal ambitions for the dijery doo party glory, a non starter until someone brighter comes along.
Gotta go..
TG Spokes………yeah, by why would UKIP or any other party want to use the Tory Party manifesto, it doesn’t make sense. Their manifesto is presently geared to those who want to follow the trendy green left wing agenda, and giving away our defence capabilities to the Ukraine. The fake Conservatives under Johnson have firmly plonked themselves down in the political landscape somewhere between the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party, and far far removed from those of a traditional Conservative persuasion. Sooner or later these psuedo Conservatives are going to have to wake up and smell the coffee, because they ain’t gonna last too much longer…….hopefully.
I agree with you Colin. Nigel Farage was a force to be reckoned with and when he left UKIP due to all the back stabbing and subsequent bad mouthing I was very hurt and disappointed but understand why he had had enough. Without somebody like him to lead the charge I can’t see anybody who can get us out of this mess.
Lisa…… The fact of the matter is that only Nigel Farage has the charisma, the calibre, political nouse, ability, know how and knowledge base to make substantial inroads into the traditional votes of both the Conservative and Labour Parties, and make a success of a grouping on the right and potentially an electoral threat to these mainstream parties who have a history of not serving us well in recent times. The present leadership of Reform UK, and the leaders of the Heritage Party, UKIP and other similar parties of the centre right, just have not got what it takes, it is simple as that. It stands out like a sore thumb, and is all too plain to see The problem is would he want to lead a new political grouping of the right with all the problems that may entail. Life is probably more agreeable for him at the moment presenting a radio programme, but we need change, and change pretty damn quickly, and for me at least sniping from the sidelines is not that far reaching, as not everybody has Facebook, Twitter or You Tube etc etc, or even interested in it.
No use waiting for a knight on a white charger; there’ll never be one.
You can’t depend on the Farages of this world. Whats this obsession anyway with CHARISMA? Blair is supposed to have had charisma and look where that got us. Do’nt people learn?
Its up each one of to us individually . How about talking to complete strangers in their front gardens, brazenly knocking on doors , handing them a White Rose leaflet or some such, and starting by asking them what they think about what’s happening. You’ll get plenty of rebuffs but ideas spread….
Or how about a whispering campaign about some particular aspect of the main party MP’s performance, eg a disgusting response we might have had from our MP on some topic or other.
Mary…….I fear you may be right about Farage, but it doesn’t alter the fact that when he puts his mind to it politically, he is a draw and people do follow him unlike some others I could mention. Charisma is just a word like any other, however how about ‘personality’ or ‘presence’. Name me one politician anywhere that can deliver a speech without reference to notes. Farage is about the only one, and lets face it if you know your subject whatever it might be and have the ability to string some sentences together without umming and ahhring, its pretty straight forward, and Farage is able to do this in bucket loads. Farage is a great orator like Winston Churchill and he was the man of his time, just Farage was prior to the 2016EU referendum, and I think he could be again if he put his mind to it. However I think nowadays he prefers being a media man.
Use his pulling power whilest broadening his scope and giving him greater status and involvement in developement and delivering an improved Britain. Put wisely, I would have thought he would jump at it
Afraid I don’t trust Reform UK one jot. Don’t even trust Nigel to put the knife into the Tories. He’s a media man now. Reform UK appears to be a temporary home for closet Tories who, IMHO only seek to reform the Tories not replace them. These people cannot be trusted.
Embedded in Reform are two of the key Tory infiltrators placed in UKIP to ensure it never became a small c conservative party to squeeze out the now limp, corporatist, greencrap deluded CONservatives in the way that Labour pushed the Liberal Party to the margins.
Please do name them!
Agree entirely
Not sure if that would leave me legally exposed if I do it here – Viv, I’ll email you but I bet you will not be surprised
Yes please, do email me and I’ll let you know if I’ve ‘known this all along’ or am hugely surprised …
Thanks
Do you think Nigel could do that? Why is Reform a lost cause? Apart from the 2 former UKIP saboteurs in its ranks there is the structure – or rather lack of it. The former chairman of the next door UKIP branch and another ex Kipper, who, I am told, is the Reform PPC for my own constituency, wanted to stand and are standing in May for their borough elections. They had a devil of a job getting a list of supporters to assist in getting their nominations. (I told them not to be such wusses and man up to cold calling)
The ex UKIP chairman agreed with me that Reform needs a proper branch structure to build teams and social relationships between those teams and neighbouring branches, as we did in UKIP. This is a Nigel legacy after his altercations with the UKIP NEC. In reality the only time they truly blocked him was over the Welsh Assembly list in 2016 but he seemed to want a fiefdom, not a grassroots democracy. Now Nigel only has a titular role Tice could do this. Why doesn’t he?
Incidentally, it was Nigel who shat on UKIP not the other way round – when he took over the Brexit Party from Catherine Blaiklock he courted UKIP officers to break up the structure. I was in Portugal at a scientific meeting when a branch member called me to say our Regional Organiser had attended a TBP invite only event; I got home to find I had been sent the same swanky invite – I was a county chairman at the time. I got another swanky exclusive meet with Nigel drinkies invite a couple of weeks later too. Yet when the 2019 GE came, former UKIP members who were TBP ‘supporters’ (they cleverly didn’t have members) who paid their money to be PPCs got stitched up.
‘I told them not to be such wusses and man up to cold calling’ – What on earth is anyone doing aiming to be a councillor/MP if he can’t manage cold calling? It’s part of the job!
Debbie………..well there were many parliamentary and local authority candidates that I came across in UKIP and The Brexit Party for that matter who were afraid to walk down a garden path and knock on the door and speak to the electors behind it. Canvassing is the MOST effective way of gaining somebody’s vote, but far too many thought that writing a five part opera in leaflet form was sufficient to gain a vote, when in fact the majority of election leaflets posted through a letterbox find themselves being dumped in a recycling bin without being read. However at least UKIP had a branch infrastructure, a membership and an activist base who they could call upon to fight elections, not only locally, but county wide and nationwide. Reform UK is the exact opposite, and will never ever succeed. Their leadership believes in everything being organised from the centre, and nothing has changed since then. I was a constituency campaigns organiser with The Brexit Party, and was constantly coming up against a brick wall, and wasn’t even allowed the details of registered supporters. We left Reform UK when Farage stepped down and went Independent instead.
After bureaucracies merciless harvesting of town centres, and Internet Retail merciless weeding of all advantage from ignorant importers, and total lack of understanding of their relationship, it is not surprising that Retail is weak.. .It is structurally unsound. And until an alternative meansof displaying goods is found people won’t buy.
The foolishness of JIT and outsourcing and long supply bulk chains, and slack costly and slow law, unrecognised, will be a continueing drain of money into the wrong pockets… Let’s face it we have been politicised into thoughtless destruction of a old developed asset. Do we not realised we have committed suicide.
The High Street wants to fight back. The customers want to return . But our supply chain blockages and money and goods diverted , means that without a level playing field it’ll all wither. So losing the market thus loses the money, thus losing the country to political idleness and fools.
Incrediblelack of vision.
The main solution to our country’s ills, is to get rid of Johnson as prime minister. He is truly the pits, and what’s no conservative. I am glad to have read elsewhere today that we are approaching his nemesis, and that after the local elections he will be cast aside. We need a proper Conservative at the helm, rather than a leftie twerp that we have at the moment. If the Conservatives can turn things around and return their party to proper Conservative policies, they might stand a half decent chance of turning things around by the next general election. If they don’t, then they will be done for.
I concur with all the comments below, and as for the bear, a laugh out loud moment.
First, for anyone who has been following him, Gonzalo Lira is alive. He popped up on The Duran. He was indeed taken by the SBU, but so far, remains well – possibly due to the social media clamour over his whereabouts – though ‘under investigation’, as he put it.
Re the siege of the Azovstal factory complex, he confirmed the besieged troops had been ordered – by that humane hero Mr ‘E – not to surrender, and that the ‘evil’ Putin has said they will not be stormed and obliterated, which they easily could, but held there under blockade.
Gonzalo quoted what he called the rule of Twos: You can go two minutes without oxygen; You can last two hours in freezing water; You can last two days without water; You can last two weeks without food. He predicted they will surrender before too long, survival being more pressing than fear of that nice Mr ‘E.
On Putin’s ‘blunders’; they are only blunders set against the West’s narrative. If that narrative was never the intention, where is the blunder. And as for long drawn out, well, given the current pace, Gonzalo reported a further forty-two villages in Russian hands as they advance towards the Donbass, and the actual objectives as opposed to the narrative, that is unlikely.
A final point was that Western ordnance is being routinely destroyed on arrival, which is rapidly enfeebling the West’s own resources that were already critically low, echoing what Gen. Barrons laid out, and no longer with the capability to rapidly re-equip. A fact that China must be watching with great interest.
I was just sent this picture – have a giggle, I did!
With a tent in those colours, it must be a Ruskie bear. Oh, and the campers in the tent are winning . . .
A bear derriere
Is good to share
Nice little pome, Mary!
I found that bear behind quite attractive …
It has obviously just eaten a missionary
The Crime Minister is now the chief Funeral director of the land formerly known as England. Anyone got the slightest idea how more immigration from India is a trade deal?
Here is a video (90 seconds) by Carl Vernon of the Indians making Boris Johnson look like the prat that he is.
“When comedy writes itself”
Pure gold.
Indeed! Can you imagine them doing that to Putin?
Flyer- you said yesterday you were off with your rifle. You didn’t say whose side you were going to join (?) (!).
I pray that he takes his dressing up box and awful wallpaper a long way away from No 10 very soon.
‘I once did this when I went to a wedding’. You couldn’t make it up. I commented on this yesterday, but he is a total prat. Do us all a favour Boris, and stay there, would be my advice.
Sorry I can’t derive amusement over this jackass making a laughing stock of us and our country. I’m more inclined to weep than laugh.
Is this what the political establishment mean when they celebrate the role of Britains wide range of global ‘soft power’ ? Soft in the head more like!
