Today is the first of the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holidays. The MSM print editions graced their front pages with the latest photo of the Queen, excepting the Guardian, the Star and the FT, unsurprisingly (link). ‘Other’ news which crept in were the ‘holiday chaos’ and that Johnny Depp won his court case because that’s of such huge interest to British punters.

One other item got in: the Ukraine won! Mind, that was only in footie where they beat Scotland 3 – 1 and are now going to face Wales on Sunday. Take that, Putin! The DT couldn’t resist to quote the Ukrainian coach who said after the match:

“Later their coach Oleksandr Petrakov would dedicate the victory to the Ukrainian armed forces “in trenches or in hospitals or wherever they are”. “We played for the Ukrainians who suffer every day,” he said. Later he would pull no punches as he reminded the room of war crimes, “the Ukraine women raped by the orcs – as we call the Russians – on a daily basis”.” (paywalled link)

Yes, well – one cannot expect a footie coach to know that the Ukrainian government person who made those rape allegations had been sacked by her Ukrainian government because her claims were without any foundation which even Ukrainian journalists found unacceptable. One might have expected the DT to drop that quote from their report, but clearly, it’s fine to spread fake news when those fake news denigrate ‘The Enemy’, provided one can quote ‘one of ours’ who spreads those fake news. It works even better when repeating such fake news can be smuggled into some apparently innocent report about a footie match.

Meanwhile, Whitehall is hiding other ‘war news’ behind the Jubilee Holidays, in the hope that too many readers have either gone away, creating that travel ‘chaos’, or are preparing for their Jubilee Street parties and are therefore not paying attention.

That piece of news is that “we”, like the USA, are now giving long-range missile launchers to the Ukraine (link, paywalled) because the Ukraine ‘has promised’ not to use them against Russian targets in Russia. We read that “Ukrainian troops will be trained in the UK on how to use the launchers, to ensure their effectiveness is maximised.” and are treated to a statement by Mr Ben Wallace:

“The UK stands with Ukraine and has taken a leading role in supplying its heroic troops with the vital weapons they need to defend their country,” British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said on Wednesday. “As Russian’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine. These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against Russia’s brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities.”. So where are the photos of those ‘flattened cities’? Surely our intrepid MSM war correspondents would have presented them to us by now? Oh – you mean Mariupol? The place where Ukrainian neo-naughties were using civilian buildings, hospitals and apartment blocks as firing platforms? Given that we’ve been told repeatedly that the Ukrainian forces were ‘NATO trained’, one wonders if it’s NATO doctrine to use human shields, as the Ukrainian forces have been and are still doing. 

One might also wonder how many Ukrainian soldiers are actually left to fight and be trained. After all, didn’t the Ukrainian president acknowledge yesterday that yes, soldiers were dying on a daily basis? Perhaps we also ought to ask where all the NATO money and training in the last eight years has gone. Perhaps, like in Afghanistan, there aren’t 100,000 or 200,000 Ukrainian soldiers, perhaps these numbers also contain ‘ghosts’? 

If you wonder how we’re going to pay for replacing those weapon systems we’re giving away, Whitehall is drawing up plans, to ‘seize’ the billions of frozen assets of Russian oligarchs (my emphasis)::

“The National Security Council has held discussions about whether the government can do more with the personal wealth of sanctioned oligarchs. Liz Truss, the foreign secretary, is said to be an advocate of plans to seize their wealth and the Home Office is said to be considering legislation. The government wants to use the oligarchs’ wealth, which is estimated at £10 billion, to fund a “Marshall plan” to rebuild Ukraine. There is an active discussion about whether the money could also go towards providing Ukraine with more weapons.” (link paywalled)

La Truss and the mandarins are in good company when planning this outright robbery. After all, Trudeau is planning to do this and so is Brussels:

“The European Union will explore confiscating the assets of Russian oligarchs to pay for the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine. Speaking to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission president, said that the EU would “leave no stone unturned” in raising funds for Ukraine’s economic reconstruction, “including, if possible” selling off frozen Russian assets.” (link, paywalled)

They don’t seem to be worried at all about how this will be regarded in other countries, from China and India to Africa and South America. How safe will their industrialists feel about putting funds into UKUSEU banks? How trustworthy are countries which impose sanctions and freeze assets illegally, without UN mandate, at the stroke of a pen? 

I leave you with news of the latest drive by green fanatics and politicians to change our dietary habits. There’s the report that in four Welsh primary schools kids from 5 – 11 will be fed ‘mince’ made from insects (link) such as mealworms. Leaving aside the outrageous attempt of green fanatics to use kids as means to influence parents and thus adults, this is yet another example for misguided ‘greenery’.

Mealworms and other insects are bird food. In order to ‘save the planet’ and look good by eating ‘alternative protein’, these ideologues are apparently happy to deprive our songbirds of their food. Let’s not mention that the fabulous bird shredders are also killing off insects in their trillions. Who needs songbirds when ‘the planet must be saved’!

But there’s more. There’s seaweed: “Rebrand seaweed as a vegetable to show how tasty it is, says UN adviser” (link, paywalled) who went on to explain that “we” were able to ‘grow our brains’ because we were eating seaweed. Yep, there’s those huge oceans in Africa when humanoid evolved … and there must be huge oceans in America’s interior because ‘the natives’ there also ate seaweed. He said:

“[…] that for thousands of generations humanity depended on seaweed, which has fatty acids like those in fish, and was “why our brains grew so big”. “It may have pleased some old male archaeologists from the 19th century to think we were sapiens because we were very brave men hunting mammals while the woman was in the cave,” he told the Hay Festival. “But the truth is not that — the truth is we were good at winkling seaweed with all the family. Stop laughing! Dontcha see that only old males guffaw at this lovely image of wimmin collecting seaweed even in places far away from any coast, to make us more clever than apes? 

It seems that the silly season is already upon us – nay, it’s been ‘silly season’ ever since covid. It’ll be with us for as long as the MSM hacks are derelict in their duty to do proper research as opposed to copy and paste from social media.
