Summary written by Hugh Moelwyn Hughes

(with apologies to those who have not been fully quoted)

The meeting was well attended. There were apologies and messages of support from 15 others. The Chairman of the Meeting David Rowlands welcomed those present.

A one minute silence was held in memory of the late Stan Edwards.

 “We may start small, but we can grow, as did UKIP, to the point where 4 Million voted for UKIP. We must be seen on the streets as Libertarians, not as a Party. Climate Change activists are inaccurate in attributing warming to CO2. In Roman times vines grew at Newcastle, in Victorian times the Thames froze over, and neither happened because of CO2.

The British Empire was the most beneficial Empire of all. We are not standing on the shoulders of black slaves, but on the hardship of many – the children who were sent up chimneys, or down the mines, or into cotton mills. Most people had appalling lives, which were improved by the Classical Liberal reforms of the 19th Century, leading to equality. But now, as a white heterosexual male, I am the lowest in the pecking order. We should all be equal. One of our aims is to see our people appointed to NGOs.”

The convenor, Hugh Moelwyn Hughes, outlined the proposed purpose of the Free Libertarians (separately reported here).

As in previous UKIP meetings, everyone wanted to speak. Here are their suggestions for future consideration:

KE: Is there a view on stripping us of our basic freedoms, using corona virus to lead to identity cards, digital currency and total surveillance and control ?

IW: People got covid from care homes and hospitals

DJR: Deaths from Covid Virus were exaggerated. There were incentives for doctors to put Covid on Death Certificates. Probably only 68,000 died from Covid

MF: Wales had the highest death rate from Covid in the UK. A friend dealing with the death of a relative was told by the doctor “if I can put Covid down it will be easier for you”.

LN: It is appalling to vaccinate children without parental consent.

Ian Williams said: The Labour Party has 50% of the seats in the Welsh Assembly. They are now proposing changes to the voting system designed to keep them in power. They claim high employment levels in Wales, but this is because of employment in the Public Sector and in the Third Sector. Powers should be devolved to the Regions [cf Counties], and there should be a Referendum on keeping the Welsh Assembly. I have plans to field several candidates in the Council Elections next May [details redacted].

GH: I will pledge £500 towards your campaign.

LN: Immigration should end

DJR: In the last decade we have had 10 million immigrants.

GN: Senior appointments in the Police now go to the woke.

GH: Defunding the BBC is not enough. It should be privatised.

Hugh Moelwyn Hughes proposed:

  • That we form a Voluntary Association in South Wales East with the aim of extricating the UK completely from the European Union, upholding the integrity of the United Kingdom and re-affirming the Libertarian Tradition of Free Trade, Low Regulation, Low Tax, Freedom of Association, Free Enterprise, and Free Speech;
  • Opposing the new fascism of Woke Ideology by re-asserting that there are only 2 sexes, not 47 genders;
  • Abolishing the Equality Act which promotes chosen categories of people and downgrades white people, males, and heterosexuals;
  • De-funding the BBC and de-politicising the Arts Council and other quangos;
  • Ending “no-platforming”, diversity training and the use of Critical Race Theory;
  • Promoting co-operation between all Libertarian Parties by meeting regularly to discuss other policies which might be adopted by our Association, to decide which campaigns we should promote and support, and to consider how to meet those objectives

These proposals were approved nem.con. [Ed: ‘without dissent’, unanimously]

The meeting decided:

* That the following be appointed until the first Annual General Meeting: Chairman – David John Rowlands,  Secretary – Greg Lewis, Treasurer – Mike Ford, Convenor – Hugh Moelwyn Hughes

* That the temporary title of Free Libertarians shall apply until decided otherwise (presently scheduled for decision on Thursday 2nd December 2021);

* That the Members of the South Wales East Association comprise those attending this meeting, and other applicants all of whom who reside in South Wales East.

The next meeting will take place at the Kings Head Hotel, Usk, on Tuesday 5th October 2021 at 7pm.

We welcome supporters from other areas
